Summertime at My Heart Pieces

Hi all!

The latest challenge at My Heart Pieces is to create a Summertime card with one of her images...
I used my new set of Spellbinders 'Romantic Rectangles' along with her image 'Bathing Fairy'.  The quote is from Viva Las Vegas Stamps.  I coloured the image with watercolour crayons and a water brush and used stickles on the wings and bubbles.  Enjoy!

New scrapbook page

I've been working on an album from our 2010 trip to Vegas and Disney.  I just got some new Spellbinders and as I was doing this page, I thought the Spectacular Spin die from the Cut, Fold and Tuck dies would be a good medallion to mimic the beautiful mosaic work at the Ceasar's Palace Hotel.

Published Cards

I have been very lucky to have some of my work published.  As this blog is also a creative resume of sorts, I post when I have a card or layout published.  I have just updated my Published Cards page with the latest two cards.  You never know what exactly an editor is looking for, so submit your work!  Hugs!

Rocks

Man a week goes by fast! I read something not too long ago about what you collect.  I know, craft supplies.... Seriously though the question was what do you find interesting enough to collect different ones of?  I thought about this and couldn't come up with something right away.  When I was 12, it was bookmarks.  When I was older, it was books about the Titanic.

Now, well I found something... rocks.  OK, quit laughing!  Our family has experienced a few big losses in the past few years, and I was drawn to rocks... When my dad was still living, he finally got a chance to buy a piece of property of hs own.  When her got back from 'his land' he gave my mom, my sister and I each a rock from his land.  When he died 3 years ago, I finally got a chance to see his land in person (it's in northern Quebec).  Upon leaving, I just felt I needed a ROCK from his land.  So I took one to bring home to Alberta.  You should have seen the look on my husband's face when I took it out of my luggage.

The next year, I visited my grandfather's original land and was again struck to need a piece of it.  This time it was a little smaller, seriously!

Then my husband found a rock from where he spent all his summers as a little boy.

So here's my collection of rocks.  Sure to grow as more significant events happen to our family...
What do YOU collect?

Project time

So I got inspired last month to do an altered project.  I had seen enough examples out there, but decided I needed a way to keep updated pics of the 'kids' in my life stored and visible.  Started with a white primed tray.

Used some brown craft paint to cover the edges and inside edges of openings.  Then filled in the centre of the openings (about 4x6") with some patterned paper.

I added some clear plastic trimmed with leaf beaded ribbon I've had for ever.

Raided my alphabet letter stickers and spelled out the names of the kids I regularly get updated pics for:

And VOILA!  I have a way to store and see the recent pics of the kids in my life! The neat thing is you can paint and decorate to match your decor.  It only took me a couple hours from start to finish!  This matches my livingroom and currently hangs in my entranceway.  Hugs!

Blog Hop!

I am EXTREMELY proud to announce that I am on a second design team!  My Heart Pieces has some really nice original hand drawn digital stamps.  This is her first Blog Hop.  This is stop #2 for this Blog Hop.  You should have come from  Anne-Marie’s blog( http://lilybettescards.blogspot.in/ ) and your next hop is over to Danielle’s (http://www.d-dazzledscraps.com). You do need to make a comment at each blog to be eligible for a draw.  Thanks for stopping by!

It was hard to narrow down the first image I wanted to play with, but this fairy caught my eye.  She’s called “Waiting For You (2)”.  I coloured 2 copies of the mages with water colour pencils.  Then I cut out the braid and flowers from one image.  I pop-dotted the braid and flowers and then made a ribbon rose in the bottom right next to the fairy.  I used Stickles on the wings and the rose to give it the sparkly effect.   The image was trimmed and matted on dark green paper, then onto a card front layered with printed green paper.

Then I had to play some more!  Did the fairy in green and made her a red-head like me!  Did a fall leaf theme for ths one...

As I was workng on these, a friend's daughter was visiting for the day and seemed interested in the image.  So I offered her an image and she created this!  She also chose everything for the card.  Great job Bella!

St. Patrick's Day and International Quilting Day!

Woohoo! Time for some green Quilts! LOL! Not often that these two days land on the same weekend. I finally finished one of my UFOs (unfinis...
